Istiqlal Mosque
Exploration of iconic Indonesian architecture through an aesthetic low poly 3D model of Istiqlal Mosque. Precisely crafted with Blender by Langen Dimas Pramudya for modern web visualization needs.
Details & Model Background
As a developer, I have always been interested in exploring the intersection of web technology and 3D visual art. This 3D model of Istiqlal Mosque project is a creative challenge to simplify the grand and complex architectural structure into an efficient low poly asset while preserving the essence of its visual identity.
The creation of this model focuses on geometry optimization without sacrificing the distinctive silhouette that characterizes Istiqlal Mosque. Using Blender, I applied retopology and simple shading techniques to ensure the model not only looks artistic but is also lightweight when implemented into web applications based on Three.js or Babylon.js.
The main goal of this project is to provide a ready-to-use 3D asset for various needs, ranging from website design elements, educational *game* assets, to minimalist architectural visualization. Through the low poly approach, I prove that the beauty of a national icon can be represented with modern, performance-friendly techniques.
How the System Works
The process of creating this 3D model began with the blocking stage using real photo references of Istiqlal Mosque to ensure the proportions of the dome and minarets remain accurate. I used primitive modeling techniques in Blender to assemble the basic shape of the mosque with the minimum number of polygons to maintain file size efficiency.
After the basic shape was formed, the next step was efficient UV Unwrapping. I applied flat shading to give a sharp and modern artistic feel typical of low poly. This process ensures that lighting on the model will appear consistent even without heavy textures.
The final stage involved exporting to web-compatible formats, such as glTF or GLB. I optimized the mesh to keep the vertex count low, so the model can load quickly in browsers without burdening client memory, making it an ideal asset for smooth interactive web experiences.
Key Features
- Low Poly Optimization: Geometry structure simplified to the maximum to ensure very fast *rendering* performance across various devices.
- Web-Ready Assets: Created in industry-standard file formats (GLB/glTF) ready for direct integration into Three.js or React Three Fiber *frameworks*.
- Proportion Accuracy: Despite its minimalist style, the model retains the iconic shape and original architectural proportions of Istiqlal Mosque that are easily recognizable.
- Lightweight & Efficient: Very small file size ensures optimal web page *loading* time without compromising the visual quality presented.
