KEMENHUB RI Building
3D modeling exploration of the iconic KEMENHUB RI building. An efficient low-poly model designed with Blender, combining architectural accuracy with performance optimization for lightweight and interactive web visual assets.
Details & Model Background
This project is a form of visual appreciation for an iconic office architecture in Indonesia, the Ministry of Transportation (KEMENHUB) RI Building. As a developer who also delves into 3D modeling, I was challenged to replicate the complex structure of this building into an efficient low-poly form while maintaining its original visual character.
The model was created entirely using Blender, with a primary focus on optimizing vertex count and topology to keep the model lightweight when implemented in a 3D web environment (such as Three.js or Babylon.js). The biggest challenge in this project was simplifying the intricate facade details of the building into clean geometry without losing the essence of the original building shape.
The final result is a flexible 3D asset suitable for various scenarios such as digital architectural presentations, assets in game simulations, or decorative elements on interactive websites. This project proves that with proper modeling techniques, large-scale building objects can be optimized into performant digital assets without sacrificing aesthetic quality.
How the System Works
The process of creating this 3D model follows a standard industry workflow to ensure optimal asset quality. The initial stage begins with collecting visual references (blueprints and field photos) to accurately map the basic proportions of the KEMENHUB RI building in 3D space.
Next, I performed blocking out using box modeling techniques in Blender to form the main building mass. After the basic proportions were established, I applied low-poly optimization techniques. Here, I removed invisible faces (backface culling) and performed manual retopology to ensure a clean mesh, which is crucial for real-time rendering performance in web browsers.
The final stage includes an efficient UV Unwrapping process to minimize texture distortion, followed by applying simple materials based on Principled BSDF. The entire model is then exported to standard web formats such as GLTF/GLB to ensure high compatibility with modern web graphics libraries like Three.js, ensuring the model can be loaded quickly by users.
Key Features
- Low-Poly Geometry: Designed with a minimal polygon count to ensure maximum performance on web applications and mobile devices.
- Web-Ready Format: The model is exported in GLB/GLTF format, the industry standard for 3D assets on the web that efficiently supports textures and geometry.
- Clean Topology: A well-organized and neat mesh structure, facilitating animation or further modification without disrupting the building's form flow.
- Render Optimization: Textures and materials are managed to minimize *draw calls*, allowing the model to load very quickly in various modern browsers.
- Proportional Accuracy: Faithful visual replication of the original KEMENHUB RI building form, providing a professional and authentic impression for your visualization projects.
